Back Yard Day One - Aug 14th 2011

The first planting was a few days earlier when I put in some ferns from my neighbor Dave Slymon's yard. They look a bit lonely in the large bed.

I've bought shrubs from the Gardening factory that were reduced to $10 each. Apart from one holly bush that I planted on the rear lawn they all went in the west bed by the Scapewell. I am going to have to come up with names for each of the beds as I dig them. So far I have just one bed. I need to do some work at the back of the bed to install a lightning protector at the place where the transmission line for my amateur radio antenna enters the basemen so I have not been able to plant everything in the optimum position.

The shrubs were:
Ilex meserveae mesid - Blue Maid Holly (planted on the lawn)
Spiraea nipponica - Snow Mound Spirea
Potentila fruticosa - Pink Beauty Potentilla
Potentila fruticosa - Red Ace Cinquefoil Potentila
Juniper chinensis - Gold Lace Chinese Juniper
Stewartsonian Azalea

I also got a Pieris japonica which I will plant somewhere else since it is shade loving and the available places on the west bed get too much sun. Shamefully it is still not planted today (Aug 27) and is looking decidedly unhealthy.

I will put up pictures of all these when I work out how.
